Potassium silicate as an inducer of abiotic stress resistance in grain sorghum seeds

چکیده

Sorghum is an important crop that can absorb and accumulate abundant Si ranging, improving tissue toleranceto the water salt stress reducing sodium absorption. T hus, objective was to verify induction of resistance ingermination seedling growth sorghum seeds during germination due treatment with silicon. Two experiments were carried out two cultivars (EA03 EA955) solution potassium silicatesolutions at concentrations 0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 1.2 g L-1, in first experiment submitted usingPEG 6000 (0, -0.2, -0.4, -0.6 -0.8 MPa) second using NaCl 75, 150 225 mM). Wereanalysed, germination, count, shoot root length, ratio dry weight. The studiedgenotypes showed similar behavior when treated silicate. presence silicon whenexposed has no effect on but attenuates salinity damage related growth. Silicon attenuatesthe effects seeds, by maintaining up potential Mpa, providing betterroot development. However, silicate does not prevent caused high levels waterand stress, only attenuating its effects, thus, more studies are needed better clarify seeds.

Evaluation of grain yield in sorghum hybrids under water stress.

Sorghum grain yield can be significantly affected by climatic changes, especially drought and high temperature. The purpose of this study was to evaluate hybrids of grain sorghum grown under normal irrigation conditions or water stress in order to select those likely to be more tolerant of drought. Forty-nine hybrids were grown in a randomized block design experiment, with three replications. T...

Evaluation of grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) lines/cultivars under salinity stress using tolerance indices

Selecting and cultivating the crops/varieties that can tolerate water salinity is potentially animportant strategy to save fresh water resources and maximize the crop yield in salt affected areas. To evaluate the responses of 36 sorghum lines and cultivars to salinity stress, two fieldexperiments were conducted in non-stress (EC=2 dS/m) and salinity stress conditions (EC=12dS/m) using randomized...

effect of different levels of potassium sulfate and drought stress on yield and yield attributes of grain sorghum (sorghum bicolor)

this study was conducted to explore the effects of drought stress and different levels of potassium sulfate on yield and yield attributes of grain sorghum at agriculture and natural resources research station of sistan during year of 2009. treatments were arranged in a split-plot lay out based on a randomized complete block design with three levels of drought stress as main plot (irrigation at ...

the sensitivity of grain sorghum (sorghum bicolor l.) developmental stages to salinity stress: an integrated approach

to understand the effects of salinity stress on four different growth stages of sorghum, a greenhouse experiment with 10 treatments, considering all possible combinations of salinity stress and salt- free periods was carried out. the four growth stages for stress application included: emergence until growing point differentiation, growing point differentiation until half bloom, half bloom until...

Role of Calcium in Regulating Potassium-Sodium Homeostasis and Potassium as Nutrient Signal during Abiotic Stress Conditions

Calcium is a ubiquitous cation, which serves as a second messenger for numerous signals and confers specific cellular responses in eukaryotes. Recent studies have established a concept termed ‘Ca signature’ that specifies Ca changes triggered by each signal. However, it is very fascinating how this pervasive cation can translate an infinite number of stimuli into unique stimulus-dependent respo...
